Male Anna’s J-shaped Dive Display:
On sunny days the dives are oriented such that the sun is reflected from crown and gorget toward the object of the dive. The object may be a female Anna’s Hummingbird, another hummingbird, another bird species, or occasionally a human. The tail feathers make “Chirp” noise at bottom of the dive.
Rufous males vocalize during their typically oval-shaped display flight, which is almost exclusively directed toward females during the breeding season.
