
- Feeding Hummingbirds: 1/4 cup white sugar per cup of water, even in colder weather.
- Never use honey or food coloring as they can be harmful.
- Keep feeder in shady area to retard spoilage and replace fluid regularly. Spoilage is the greatest danger. Fungus & bacteria flourish in sugar water, especially in hot weather.
Hummingbirds feeding on sugar water that’s been left out over 3-4 days can develop enlarged livers. Back to Red Rufous Section
