Juvenile Pileated Woodpeckers stay with their parents for 2-3 months, learning to forage and care for themselves. This is a much longer time of parental care than for the other species of woodpeckers in this area.
Notice the pink fuzz of the juvenile crest. This is a female, with no malar stripe.
